The books and films have been a fan favourite since the late 90s but now there’s more to the story. The gripping two-part play takes place 19 years after we last saw Harry, Ron and Hermione as they head back to the wizarding world to save their future against mysterious dark forces. Fans flock from around the world to experience the new era of Harry Potter, which has made tickets pretty steep. Tickets start as low as £30 but can reach highs of over £200. 

There are a few ways to grab cheap tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, including promotions such as London Theatre Week, Kid’s Week and New Year’s Sales. It’s also a good idea to compare prices, especially if you’re looking at going during the peak visiting times such as weekends and bank or school holidays.

2. When Should I Book Tickets for Harry Potter?

The play is unlike any typical West End production as there are two parts and you can watch both in one day or across two days - the choice is yours. If you’re looking to watch both parts in one day, availability is typically good about a month out. Looking to book across two days? We recommend booking at least 4 months in advance as there are fewer of these tickets made available. 

Booking a Wednesday performance can save you up to 30% as opposed to a weekend performance. This is a great way to save money if you’re flexible with when you can visit. It’s not always possible to find discounted Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets, however, we recommend checking London Theatre Week, Kid’s Week and New Year’s Sales, as sometimes you can grab discounted tickets for the show. 

3. How Do I Get Last Minute Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Tickets?

Looking for cheap last-minute Harry Potter tickets? There are a few ways you can find them. If you’re already in London, you could head to the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. Or, if you’re not in London just yet, you can check the TKTS online listings for same-day ticket discounts. 

The play also has a TodayTix lottery called Friday Forty where you can be in for a chance to grab two tickets for £40 for a performance the following week. The lottery opens every Monday afternoon and you can find out more info on the TodayTix app. 

The box office may discount unsold tickets on the day of the performance, however, this is not always guaranteed especially for the cheapest tickets and during peak visiting times such as weekends and bank and school holidays. We always recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment on the day, especially if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a must-see when you’re visiting London. It’s best to research ticket prices beforehand, that way you know which prices to look for within your budget. 

4. Where Should I Sit at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?

Knowing where to sit when booking theatre tickets can be one of the most difficult parts, especially when the show includes special effects. We’ve created a list of the top 5 seats at the Palace Theatre for under £100. All of the seat views have been left by real people and are rated 4 stars if above on SeatPlan. 

As the play is in two parts, you’ll need to spend more than the average West End show as you’ll be purchasing two tickets. The cheaper seats at the Palace Theatre offer restricted views, with the seats at the steeper price points offering the best view.

1. Grand Circle F23 (from £93.50, or £46.75 per part) is in the third tier of the theatre and offers a great view of all the action on stage

2. Balcony C16 (from £55, or £27.50 per part) is on the top tier of the theatre, with a slightly restricted view due to safety rails 

3. Stalls V25 (from £93.50, or £46.75 per part) is towards the back of the Stalls. A slight bit of action towards the top of the stage is missed but nothing that will alter the storyline

4. Grand Circle A30 (from £93.50, or £46.75 per part) is the first row of the third tier of the theatre. Offering a slightly restricted view due to a safety rail and tighter than usual legroom

5. Balcony E4 (from £55, or £27.50 per part) is in the third tier of the theatre and offers a side on view with a slight obstruction of the safety rail. Legroom is reported as better than most seats in the theatre 

5. How To Get Cheap Harry Potter Matinee Tickets

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is unlike any other West End plays with the show being split into two parts. Both parts of the show are shown daily, the first part starting at 2 pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and 1 pm on Sundays. The second part starts at 7 pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays and 6 pm on Sundays. 

You have the choice to watch part one and two on the same day. Or, you can book the two parts days or weeks apart. If you choose to watch both parts in one day, you’ll have the same seat for each performance. 

The schedule means that it's not possible to grab cheaper matinee tickets across the board. However, some weekday tickets may be cheaper than weekend tickets, so it’s a good idea to have a look at different dates before buying tickets. 

Insider Tip: If you choose to watch both parts in one day you’ll have approximately 90 minutes between the first and second performance. We recommend grabbing a sit-down meal at lunch, before the first part. This way you can grab something quicker between the shows to save you time.

As the theatre is in the centre of London, there is a wide range of hotels in the area to suit a range of different budgets. It’s best to look on sites such as Booking.com to see the surrounding hotels and their prices.

9. About Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Venue

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently playing at the Palace Theatre, which is a short walk from Tottenham Court Road, Leicester Square and Covent Garden tube stations, making it accessible from most areas in the city. 

As the theatre is in the heart of London, there are a range of restaurants and shops in the surrounding area. From high dining to fast-food restaurants and local supermarkets, there’s something for everyone. If you’d like a sit-down meal before the play, we recommend booking in advance as restaurants in the area can get pretty busy, especially during peak hours. 

The theatre has 4 bars across each floor and serves alcoholic and soft drinks as well as sweet and savoury snacks. Food purchased from elsewhere is not allowed into the auditorium and any drinks in glass containers must be transferred to plastic cups before heading to your seat. 

Doors open an hour before the performance starts. We recommend heading to the theatre around 45 minutes before the performance starts to give time for queues at the doors and bars. Part one is 2 hours and 40 minutes long with a 20-minute interval and part two is 2 hours and 35 minutes in length, including a 20-minute interval. It’s good to bear this in mind when making plans between the two parts and when arranging your travel home.
